Bounded by the Grand Concourse, East 161st Street, Walton Avenue and East 158th Street, the Bronx County Courthouse/Mario Merola Building was designed c. 1931 by Joseph Freedlander and Max L. Hausel. Sculpture work was created by Adolph A. Weinman, Edward F. Sanford, George Snowden, Charles Keck, and Joseph Kisselewski. It houses the Surrogate's Court, Supreme Court, County Clerk, Bronx County Sheriff, Public Administrator, District Attorney, Bronx Borough President, and other civic agencies. It underwent a recent restoration by EverGreene Architectural Arts.

The interior lobby was used as a filming location for "Billions". Episodes S2E9 and S4E1 of the Starz Network series "Power" shot in the main courtroom. It was also used as a location for the HBO film "The Many Saints of Newark" (2021).
