American Dream Hostel

USA / New Jersey / West New York / East 24th Street, 168

4-story hostel completed sometime around 1900. It is clad in brick with peeling white paint, above a ground floor lined with black stone, metal, and glass storefronts. The hostel entrance is at the west end, with a single door under a small canopy.

The upper floors on the north facade have seven bays of single-windows at the western half, with one more single-window separated out from the rest closer to the east end (not quite as far on the 2nd floor, where there is also a very small window inserted). The windows have stone sills and cast-iron lintels. A brown iron fire escape with decorative landings runs down the western two bays of the grouped-together windows. The facade is crowned by a plain, black metal roof cornice.

The east facade on the avenue has three bays of single-windows, with a continuation of the roof cornice. The ground floor is occupied by New York City Barber Shop, Gramercy Pawnbrokers, an insurance law office, and Elegant Cleaners & Tailors. The building has a secondary address of 318 Third Avenue.
