 university, dormitory

15-story residence hall completed in 1927, renovated in 1998. Designed by Schwartz & Gross as an apartment building, it later became the Hotel Grosvenor. It was acquired by NYU in 1964 as an undergraduate dormitory, and renamed the Samuel Rubin Residence Hall. It has a ground floor of limestone, with red brick above. There is a stone cornice above the 4th floors, and another dentiled cornice above the 13th. On both the west and south facades, there are triangular pediments at each end of the roof lines. Below these, the outer bays are framed by stone pilasters and enframements around the windows. There is a 2-bay addition at the east end, with a slightly different shade of red brick.
