The Albert Kahn designed stamping plant was constructed in 1925, by Clayton Lambert Manufacturing Company to manufacture auto parts for its main customer Hudson Motor. In 1929, Hudson acquired the factory produced all steel bodies for its Essex model. Hudson operated the facility until 1954, when the company went out of business.
In 1956, General Motors Cadillac Division acquired the factory to produce parts for Cadillac. Cadillac closed the plant in 1986 when operations were moved to the new Hamtramck Assembly Plant.
