This is the so called "nizhny maydanchyk" (lower plant site). Thу plant has been founded in 1930s as oil engines plants. After the WW2 the plant began producing Diesel engines and was called Diesel engines plant named after Anastas Mikoyan. In late 1950s Khrushchov has launched the "people''s car" program. The assembling of ""people''s car" Zaporozhets had been being made at the Zaporizhzhya combines assembling plant Komunar, which is known as AvtoZAZ nowadays. The engines for this car had been being made at Mikoyan plant, which received the name of Motorny (Engines plant). Because of launching of assembling of new car model, new plant site had been built in the southern part of the city near Avtokolyorlit plant. The old plant was called "lower plant site", then Motordetal (Engine spare part) plant.
