Lamesa is a city in Dawson County, Texas, United States. It is the county seat of Dawson County. Located south of Lubbock on the Llano Estacado, Lamesa was founded in 1903. Most of the economy is based on cattle and cotton. The name of the city is pronounced "la MEE sa" instead of the Spanish "la MAY sa". Population 8,998.
