If you need a wash, this is the place, as it’s the easiest to find from the bus station & opposite the post office, large & uncomplicated. It can get a bit busy as it is popular with the gray population as a social locus, but the main pools are large & you’ll always find a stool to have a wash. Loads of room to sit & day dream while you wait for the rest of your party to surface, vending machines & massage chairs.
Water: Clear & non-smelly
Price: Y630 (Kids to JHS age = Y350) Regular’s ticket (“kaisuken”) x 11 for Y6,300
Towels Y200
Hours 10am - 0am (doors close 11pm)
Closed Tuesdays (but open if national holiday & closed the next day)
Baths: Half a dozen or so different pools indoors (bubbly, cold, dripping & jet) as well as an outdoor bath which is actually quite relaxing & quiet.
You can use a tatami room upstairs to chill out, and there's tea service. There is no food available here, but they do have a selection of menus from local restaurants which will deliver if you call - all menus in Japanese only.
You can borrow bicycles here, for free, which is a really convenient way of getting around the town if you want to venture a little further & find a shrine or two. However, most of Asama is really easy to explore on foot. Bikes have carry baskets.
