The Jack Waite Mining Co. was incorporated in 1909. Production began in 1911. A new mill with electric power was built in 1928. The mine was operated by the American Smelting & Regining Co. (ASARCO) from 1934 to 1961. Individual lessors operated the mine until 1969. In 1971 it went up for auction. In 1977 a remediation project was undertaken to clean up the site to prevent contamination of Eagle Creek and the North Fork of the Coeur d' Alene River.
