East Flatbush is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The area was predominantly African American, but has seen many West Indian immigrants such as Jamaicans, Trinidadians, Grenadians, Barbadians, Panamanians, Hondurans and Haitians groups coming to the area.

Within the confines are the Holy Cross Cemetery Church on Brooklyn Avenue and Tilden Avenue. While there are some affluent residents present, East Flatbush is mostly populated by working-class Brooklynites. Similar to other inner city Brooklyn neighborhoods, blacks & Latinos predominate the neighborhood with a considerable amount of whites and asians.

The poverty rate in East Flatbush comparable to areas of such as East New York and Brownsville. East Flatbush is the home of the former General George W. Wingate High School. It is also home to three major hospitals, Kings County Hospital, SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.

  • the poverty rates are not even close to brownsvilles or east new yorks. east flatbush has high crime but one look at the street scape and its obviously a more prominent hood than the neighboring slums of bville and ENY.
