Cheonchuksa, or Cheonchuk Temple, got its name from Jigong, an Indian monk who visited the site of the temple durring the Goryeo Dynasty and remarked that the scenery was similar to that of a mountain in Cheonchuk, which meant “India.”
The temple was enlarged and remodeled several times in the 15th, 16th and the 19th centuries, its current configuration and structures was comlepeted in 2005.
