This was a Northern Pacific Railroad station established in 1883 in Elk Section 35-145-66, Melville Township just east of the pioneer settlement of Newport, whose post office moved here on May 2, 1883. The elevation is 1622, and it is the oldest existing settlement in the county. A population of 200 was reported in 1890, but the current population is less than 50. The post office closed April 21, 1967 with mail to Carrington.
