The Giza Necropolis (coordinates 29°58′33″N, 31°07′49″E) stands on the Giza Plateau, on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. This complex of ancient monuments is located some eight km inland into the desert from the old town of Giza on the Nile, some 20 km southwest of Cairo city center.

This Ancient Egyptian necropolis consists of the Pyramid of Khufu, the somewhat smaller Pyramid of Khafre, and the relatively modest-size Pyramid of Menkaure, along with a number of smaller satellite edifices, known as "queens" pyramids,
Notice how the pyramids are aligned perfectly north and conform exactly to the area boxes.

There are more than 100 pyramids in Egypt, with the largest and most famous being the complex of pyramids in Giza Necropolis, Cairo, Egypt. This complex consists of the Great Pyramid of Giza (tomb of the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu or Cheops), the Pyramid of Khafre, the Pyramid of Menkaure, the Great Sphinx statue, as well as several other smaller satellite pyramids.

Let’s take, for instance, the Great Pyramid of Giza, the only surviving member of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. When it was completed in 2560 BC, the pyramid was 481 feet (147 m) tall with each base side being 758 feet (231 m) wide. The blocks weigh about 1.5 tons each, with the internal granite blocks used as the roof of the burial chamber being about 80 tons each. The ancient Egyptians knew what they were doing: the base sides have a mean margin of error of only 2 1/3 inch (58 mm)! Needless to say, it is an amazing work of engineer

  • The most famous pyramids are the Egyptian pyramids — huge structures built of brick or stone, some of which are among the largest man-made constructions. Most of them took about 27 years to build. In Ancient Egyptian, a pyramid was referred to as mer, which was also their word for the country of Egypt itself, showing how intrinsic the structures were to the culture.[1] The Great Pyramid of Giza is the largest in Egypt and one of the largest in the world. Until Lincoln Cathedral was built in 1300 A.D., it was the tallest building in the world. The base is over 52,600 square meters in area. In the Quran, the old rulers of Egypt have been mentioned and the Glorious Quran makes difference between them. When it narrates about Egypt rulers at the age of Moses, peace upon him; they are not called with any name other than the word" pharos". This is in more than sixty Ayah(verse) like the following Ayah: And(remember) when we did deliver you from pharaoh's folk, who were afflicting you with dreadful torment slaying your sons and sparing your women: that was a tremendous trial from your Lord. (Al-Baqarah) between them. But when it narrates about Egypt rulers at the age of Joseph, peace upon him; they are not called with any name other than the word "king". • Even more than the engineering feat they represent, the Giza pyramids were unprecedented example of project management. Egyptians learned how to marshall large forces of workers, organize them, instruct them, supervise them, pay them, give them the materials they needed to do their jobs, feed them, provide them with medical attention...all the things we consider very modern. That they survive to this day is testament to the management skills of the people who ran these projects, possibly over the course of decades and certainly many years.

  • The sight of the Grand Pyramid is completly overwhelming. You approach the opening with awe crouching, gasping for breath to ascend towards the king's chamber. A sacrophagus sits there empty. A rush of oxygen fills your lungs. Pyramid power? There are air vents the guide explains. You are filled with wonder as you descend towards the Egyptian sunshine. To think that Herodotus once stood here.
  • Интересно - учёные всё себе лбы разбивают - за чем их построили?. Мне кажется что у древних просто времени было много и делать им было не чего. Вот и развликали себя.
