The extraordinary BPI "library as event" constructed in the heart of Paris, near the old Halles Centrales, part of the 1970s Piano & Rogers architectural tour de force which on its opening instantly became one of the great urban gathering-places of this city famous for same: called affectionately "our little oil refinery", the massive & multi-colored steel framing, and pipes and vents, have won the grudging respect even of Paris taxi drivers. The BPI is central Paris' largest truly-public library, crowded with multimedia and hordes of students, and open to all, offering large & popular collections
