Built as a bank in 1911 for the Canada Permanent Mortgage Corporation, and designed by the Scottish architect J.S.D. Taylor, Canada Permanent operated at 'Century House' until 1951. It then housed an insurance company, a trade school, an antique store, a restaurant and a book store. The most recent occupant, the Century House Restaurant & Bar, closed in 2011.
The City of Vancouver has designated Century House as a Class A heritage building.
The whole exterior of the building is solid granite, except for two beavers & a lighthouse cast in concrete which crown the building.
