The oldest precinct in the city, the Central Park Police Precinct, operates from a former horse stable designed by Calvert Vaux in 1871. Between 2007 and 2010 it underwent extensive redevelopment costing $50m , including the installation of a clear roof spanning the central courtyard and thereby creating a modern building atrium. The 22nd Precinct covers all of the Park's 843 acres, 58 miles of pedestrian paths, six miles of vehicle drives and five miles of bridle paths.
