Before you go bathing at "Mother's Beach" with kids, or yourself for that matter, you should know that this beach has received an "F" as the "most polluted" beach in LA County for years. It is a back-water in a man-made harbor, which itself has no natural flow to the ocean. This section of the marina has very little circulation; the beach has lots of bird fecal matter, hence the pollution problem. Windsurfing & sunbathing is fine; the view of the boats is nice. Just don't go in the water.
