The opera house was elaborated by the plans of Viennese firm Fellner & Helmer and builded by architect Alfons Wertmüller, who finished it in fully operational condition in 1888 in neo-rocco style.
Refurbished in the 1980s, the interior retains the luxurious red plush, crystal chandeliers, and gilded stucco of the original late 19th century theatre.
