María Nieves Bridge over Apure River

At first, this bridge was intended to be named "January 23", then "Unity Bridge", and then officially "Bridge over Apure River"

This work was inaugurated by the Minister of Domestic Affairs Dr. Luis Augusto Dubut during the government of President Don Rómulo Betancourt. A few years laters under the Government of Don Ricardo Montilla in accordance with the Municipality of San Fernando is renamed as "Angel María Nieves Bridge" in the honor of this great cowboy leader.

The work was funded by the National Bank of Discount; Shipyard Engineer Manuel Pérez Marcano. Its construction began in 1958, with an estimated cost of 10 million bolivars.

María Nieves Bridge is currently an Historical Heritage of Apure and has a length of half a kilometre in its base.

It merges the riversides of Apure state and Guarico state, allowing quick and easy transfer of both heavy and light vehicles, improving trade and the economy of the state.

Its name is in the honor of the famous cowboy leader of foals. It is said that Ángel María Nieves swam across Apure River toward Puerto Miranda jsut to move the cattle to the center region of the country.
