The National Maritime Museum opened in 1994. The museum is a 2-story building with a lower level with 4 main exhibit halls and one special exhibit hall.

In Exhibition Hall 1, "Underwater Cultural Heritage from Wando," about 3,000 Goryeo ceramic relics excavated from just off the Eoduri sea, Wando district, and the Wooden ship of the Goryeo (918~1392) dynasty are exhibited. The Wando ship is a model of the original boat, half the size of the original ship.

In Exhibition Hall 2, “Underwater Cultural Heritage from Sinan," one can view 22,000 pieces of 14th century Chinese ships, crockery and gold-wares.

In Exhibition Hall 3, "The Life of a Korean Fishing Village," it is possible to learn about the traditional fishing techniques and tools, and see the living conditions of those times by comparing the fishing methods of today to the past.

In Exhibition Hall 4, "Korean Traditional Boats," can be see the development of Korean shipping and shipbuilding where many models are displayed, from the ships of the Goryeo dynasty to the oilers of today.

Outside in the the outdoor exhibit there are more traditional ships.
