opera, university college
Operahögskolan i Stockholm traces its history back to 1772 when King Gustavus III founded the Royal Opera. From then until 1968 the education of opera singers took place under either the auspices of the Royal Opera or the Royal Academy of Music (Kungliga Musikhögskolan). An independent school of opera was founded in 1968 and Operahögskolan i Stockholm is now a fully-fledged university college.
