MANAPAD'S CALVARY

Fourteen Stations of the Way of Cross, on which pilgrims meditated and prayed upon in times of yore... I as a child used to accompany my parents who did this much difficult Way of the Cross by anointing each wooden cross with coconut oil in the 1980s and early 1990s. Pilgrims used to drink the anointed oil in the faith that they would be cured of all their ailments. And, I still remember that karipatti (palm jaggery) was distributed to pilgrims as prasadam in the Holy Cross Church. -- Sagaya Antony Barnabas Fernando
