Whitney Gymnasium (Old Westbury, NY)


The Whitney Gymnasium is reminiscent of a Tudor lodge. The central hall{identified on the exterior by 3 interconnected high-pitched roof gables} 2 stories high with a massive brick fireplace and open balconies on the upper floor. This great hall led to exercise rooms,squash courts, and bowling alleys.

um...I don't know if any of that is acurate...there is a large brick fireplace. Part of this building used to be a small house, used as a recreation house on the Witney Estate. The long thin part and large square section of the building was added in the 80's by NYIT. Today, this building is Midge Karr Hall and it belongs to NYIT. It houses the Interior Design school, as well as various art schools, a large two story gallery space, a theatre, darkroom facilities and computer rooms.
