Built in 1964 Phoenix International Raceway or "PIR" opened as a 1.0 mile oval and a 2.5 mile road course. PIR was primarily an Open Wheel facility until NASCAR ran its first Winston Cup race in November 1988. NASCAR added a second Cup weekend in April of 2005. PIR has been rated as one of the best races in NASCAR and is one of the most popular tracks among NASCAR drivers. It was renamed ISM Raceway in 2018, and then Phoenix Raceway in 2020.

Comments

  • Indy Car races need to be held here again. ISC ruins racing.
  • The One thing ISC runied was eliminating the Copper World Classic.....Indy Cars were snoozer in Phoenix...well at least Indy Series.....before the IRL it was good
  • The new Phoenix is really fun to race in the Nascar video games. the dogleg really feels like a fifth turn. Very fast and sweeping. Definitely gives a roller coaster feel as it dips right at the apex of the dogleg then quickly rises up as the backstretch straightens up once again just before turn 3. Even then I cut the dogleg and run right where the old circuit/ dogleg used to be.
