A county park, Oak Ridge Prairie was transformed from bean fields in the 1980's to now offering many activities from hiking, biking, sledding, Trout and Catfish fishing, cross country skiing, hay rides, and is a trailhead for the 6.25 mile Oak Savannah Trail ending in Hobart. Also encompasses most of legendary Reder Road, now closed to through traffic. Enter from South Colfax Street.

  • Oak Savannah bike trail (blacktop) runs east from here to Lake George in Hobart. Ends @ Wisconsin Avenue, but plans are to connect it with the trail that runs from the east side of Hobart to Portage.
  • Considerable biodiversity here. Some plant species rare not only in the Midwest but worldwide. Deserves more research, documentation, and publicity.
