Sankarankoil, it is the town, which is located in the Tirunelveli Kattabomman district. It is the capital of Sankarankoil taluk.There are 30 wards with one chairman and 30 Counselors. Srivillipudur, Rajapalayam and Kovilpatti are the major towns near by Sankarankoil. The total area of the town is 11.4 sq. km. The population of the town is 48,739 as per 1991 census. In the total census, 24477 are males and 24262 are females. Handlooms and Agricultures are the major industries in this taluk. In agricultures, paddy, chillies, corn, sugarcane, and groundnut are important crops.

  • Hi Shriram, I'm from Singapore and will be coming to Sankarankoil via Thenmala from a return trip to Sabarimala on 21st Sept 07. My return journey is to halt at Madurai. So on the way I would like to visit Gomathi temple and Andal temple at Srivilliputhur. Roughly how long it takes in car to reach Sankarankovil from Shenkotta as well as from Sankarankovil to Srivilliputhur. Thank you.
