Willets Point

USA / New York / Saddle Rock /
 repair -to be removed/cleaned, neighbourhood

Willets Point, also known as the Iron Triangle, is the name of this small neighborhood nestled in the crook of Flushing Creek, just east of Citi Field Stadium in Flushing, New York, in the borough of Queens. It is bounded by Northern Boulevard to the north, 126th Street and Citi Field to the west, Roosevelt Avenue and Flushing Meadows-Corona Park to the south and the Flushing River creek to the east. The IRT 7 Train stops at the Mets–Willets Point station near the southwest corner of the triangle at Roosevelt Avenue/126th Street. The neighborhood is part of Queens Community Board 7.

Slated to be redeveloped in coming years as businesses are moved out, the area was referred to as the 'Valley of Ashes' by F. Scott Fitzgerald in The Great Gatsby. What was once a salt marsh became a dumping ground in the first half of the 20th century, and trash was frequently burned there. It became the metal works for the 1939 World's Fair, and since then the industrial area has been filled for decades with auto and taxi repair shops, scrap yards, waste processing sites, and metals businesses.
