Built in 1972 by Herb O'Brien, founder of O'Brien water sports (no longer affiliated with the company). More recently Herb and his son founded Ronix Wakeboards and Radar Skis after leaving another company they started 24 years ago, HO/Hyperlite. The lake is still used for R&D, promotional photos/videos and giving a place for invited guests to practice.
