After WW2, the place used to be a maritime unions' training center, and then it was converted into a hotel. The first cooks of the hotel had maritime background, and the kitchen became popular. Its quality kept increasing, and now it is quite famous. The Storstua a la carte restaurant serves excuisite variations of Norwegian and international cuisine, and the buffet lunch attracts many gourmets.

The new building includes a nice swimming pool and other modern facilities.
It is told that the first building of the hotel used to belong to Vidkun Abraham Lauritz Jonssøn Quisling, head of the Norway's collaborationist government during WW2. After the war, Quisling was put on trial and found guilty; he was executed and his property confiscated. This building went to maritime trade union and converted first into a training center, and then to a hotel.
