Fuertes Observatory

Fuertes Observatory is Cornell's second "purpose-built" Observatory constructed in the 1930s. Due to light pollution issues it is no longer used for research, but is kept up by the Cornell Astronomical Society. The Observatory is open on Friday evenings when class is in session and sports a huge 12" refracting telescope with one of the few remaining Warner & Swasey mechanical clock drives. Although not a historic instrument, the observatory also has a 14" Celestron telescope which can be set up on the outdoor observing deck.
