Jadavpur University is a UGC rated Five Star University, established through NEC, Bengal in 1905.

JU Engineering Faculty ranks No. 1 in West Bengal amongst all engineering colleges; it comes next only to IIT Kharagpur. The Faculty has 15 departments.

However it has repeatedly lost to Calcutta University in the race to create the best geologists in India or any Nobel Laureate.

The Arts Faculty boasts of many Departments of Special Studies, including English and Comparative Literature, and also has the Department of Film Studies as well in addition to other streams.
'Sanskriti' the annual fest of JU is the most rocking fest in the city.

  • JU is West Bengal's best, as well as one of India's top five universities. The JU campus is always alive with happenings. The initial commentator is a little unfair, as the JU Science Faculty is as good as the Arts and Engineering Faculties.
  • A five star university? Even a horse would laugh listening this. There is no proper infrastructure for submiting fees. Guys and girls josstle together like cattles. There is almost no hostel facilities. Here is no rules and regulations.No environmnet for studies and academia. Motherfuckers named PDSF & SFI always fight for power. Local guys are unemployed and uncultered. They don't want proper hostel facility to come up. Only source of income for them is sucking outsiders who come here for studies. You would be forced by the local goons to donate mney for all local events. Kolkata guys have monopoly over here. Out siders are not given any chance. In short if u value your future DO NOT ever come to this university.

  • Jadavpur University is not a homogeneous entity. Every department has its own distinct environment. Some are truly liberal while others are more medieval than the long dead medieval people themselves.
