building, place with historical importance, condominium, NRHP - National Register of Historic Places
An authentic registered historic landmark, Car Barn is the most exciting regeneration on Capitol Hill. It features an entire block of one-of-a-kind apartments and townhomes, artfully realized within the existing rich brick structure of the original Car Barn Streetcar Depot.
Originally known as the East Capitol Street Car Barn, the Romanesque Revival-style structure was built in 1896 to house streetcars while they were converted to electric power. It later was a storage facility for buses, before its current conversion to residential units.
