"Mueller" is a large planned neighborhood and retail area measuring 711 acres, and, upon the project’s completion, become home to 10,000 residents and 10,000 jobs, more than 1,000 units of affordable housing, well over 100 acres of public open space, and other community amenities.
It is named after and built atop the remains of the Robert Mueller Municipal Airport, which was Austin's primary airport prior to when it was vacated when Austin’s airport relocated to the southeast Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in 1999. In its final year of service in 1998, the airport provided air transportation services to at least 6 million people on it 7,269 feet (2,215 m) runway.
Remains of the airport are still visible. Some materials remaining from the old runway are still present on the ground. In addition the old airport control tower remains standing, albeit abandoned.
The site is home to Dell Children's Medical Center, one of Austin's more famous hospitals and providing services for children.
