This was the site of the Standard Brewing Company Brewery from 1905 to 1974. Originating in an old flour mill in 1904, the brewery survived Prohibition and by 1950 employed over 400 people producing 550,000 barrels of beer annually. In 1950, the company constructed a new, four story, bottling and canning plant. The brewery building was located on the north side of Train Avenue, while other operations extended along the south side of the street.

In 1961, the brewery was sold to New York based F&M Schaefer Brewing, which subsequently sold it to Philadelphia based C Schmidt & Sons in 1964. The brewery was closed in 1974, when the brewing operation was moved to the old Carling brewery on Quincy Avenue.

The brewery building on the north side of Train Avenue was demolished in 1974, but the other buildings remain, including the 1950 bottling and canning plant, now operated as a U Haul depot and storage facility..
