T.J. O'Brien Lock and Dam (Chicago, Illinois)

USA / Illinois / Burnham / Chicago, Illinois

The O'Brien lock and dam is the uppermost barrier on the Illinois Waterway and the closest to Lake Michigan. Its main purpose is to control flow of lake waters into the waterway, rather than to raise or lower vessels (the elevation difference across the lock is minimal).
