A circular triple-staircase linking the Grand Shaft/Western Heights barracks on the top of the cliffs to the town of Dover (Snargate Street) below.

Built between 1806-9 as part of Dover's Napoleonic defenses.

The Grand Shaft is next scheduled to be open to the public on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st May 2009 (free of charge).
