91 acres of Illinois Nature Preserve that harbor a variety of threatened and endangered plant species. In Illinois, fens are limited to the northern third of the state. Fens are wetlands that require alkaline waters to sustain the unique plants that grow there. This is a prime location for hiking and birding. The Poplar Creek Forest Preserve/Kane County lies to the west of this preserve (the much larger Poplar Creek Forest Preserve/Cook County lies upstream).
