Ashtamudi Lake (Salt water Lake)

Ashtamudi Lake (Ashtamudi Kayal), in the Kollam District is a Ramsar wetland site of International importance. Ashtamudi means 'eight coned', indicative of the lake's topography with its multiple branches. Lake surface area is 61.4 sq. Km.

Famous for its Karimeen [ pearl spot fish] and Konchu [prawn] Ashtamudi kkayal as it is locally known is a beautiful water body made famous in Malayam song Ashtamudi kayalile sung by famous Malayalam film playback singers Yesudas and P. Leela in the film Manavatti -
