Seven Corners Shopping Center was the first major shopping center to open in suburban Washington, D.C.. It is located in Seven Corners, Fairfax County, Virginia. At its opening in 1956, it was the largest regional shopping center in Virginia. The backsplit two story mall structure was razed in the mid-1990s and replaced with a dual ground level power center.

  • This center was originally anchored by Woodwood & Lothrop and Garfinckle's.
  • In the 50's, the marquee, just north of Woodie's, showed the temperature and the lights scrolled up or down with the temp. There was also a drug store (Peoples?) with a soda/lunch bar and stairs that went between the levels. (At one time there was also an outside, covered, escalator.) There is/was a creek that runs under the complex and parking lot, which had a grate opening next to the outlying furniture store (near where the Home Depot is in 2009).
  • I can remember coming here as a kid in the late 80's and early to mid 90's. I remember that the SW portion was at the top of the escalator and that there was a Woolworth on the bottom floor. I can't remember too much more, but similar to the not so far Skyline Mall (now a Target), they've changed these to unrecognizable shadows of their former selves.
