These islets are a possession of Jersey, having been part of Normandy prior to the Norman Conquest of England and remaining with Jersey when Normandy was taken by the French. Sovereignty was disputed until 1953, when the International Court of Justice delivered a unanimous judgement awarding sovereignty over the Minquiers and Ecréhou to the Bailiwick of Jersey, a possession of the British Crown which shares in UK Passports and is not part of the United Kingdom.
