The St.-Matthäus Church was reconstructed in 2008 and opened as the first social church of the federal state Schleswig-Holstein in January 2009 - following the model of the Social Church in Gothenburg, Sweden. Apart of a small room for services you can find a shop of the "Kieler Tafel" which provides food for free four times each week and a cafe and meeting center of the "Evangelische Stadtmission" which offers a social counselling service.
