Construction began in 1940, before the US became directly involved in World War II. During the war, the US government contracted with the automakers to make tanks, trucks, engines and planes. By the end of the war, this facility built 22,234 tanks, over one quarter of the tanks produced in the US, solidifying its role as the “Arsenal of Democracy”. Today this building is the home of U.S. Manufacturing Corporation‎ and the surrounding area has been transformed into an industrial park.
