Berlin Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) is the relatively recent railway station in central Berlin, opened in 2006 (though a previous historic railway terminal called the Lehrter Bahnhof existed here between 1871 and 1957). It is widely regarded as one of the best modern stations in Europe and has two lines crossing within it and 14 platforms.

  • In English, the names of most railway stations on the continent aren't really translated. We use the word "Hauptbahnhof" in the same way we call the Paris terminal the "Gare du Nord" not the "North station".
