A big salt lake, formed by sewage from irrigation canals.
The water level is variable depending on the water influx and the weather.
Ath its highest, by 1985 the lake elevation had reached –2.2 m, with a surface area of 3200 mm².
Currently, its surface is the lowest point in Uzbekistan, only 5 meters above sea level (other sources say 12 meters).
Earlier there was a lot of fish. Has birds colonies on its islands.
