Opened in 1948, this Ipoh Court House complex is a governmental institution with the authority to adjudicate legal disputes between parties and carry out the administration of justice in civil, criminal, and administrative matters in accordance with the rule of law. The building was designed by Arthur Benison Hubback. At present day, the building is being used as the Ipoh High Court which probably explains its great condition of well-maintained structure and spotless brick wall. The elements of Roman architecture is pervasive throughout the building complex, which is refreshing to look at.

The High Court have unlimited civil jurisdiction in all criminal matters, except the matters involving Islamic law, which falls under Syariah Court. The High Court generally hears actions where the claim exceeds RM250,000, other than actions involving motor vehicle accidents, landlord and tenant disputes and distress. The High Court have original jurisdiction in criminal cases punishable by death.
