376-foot, 32-story International-style office building completed in 1965. Designed by Emery Roth & Sons, the slab tower is clad in a curtain wall of black aluminum and glass. The main entrance to the lobby is via a small plaza at the northeast corner of 3rd Avenue and 42nd Street, at the east end of the facade. The rest of the 2-story base has retail storefronts with plate-glass infill, with 2-story black metal piers dividing the bays. A projecting 6-story section fronts the avenue, spanning 14 bays. It sets back two bays to the main building slab, which extends another two bays to the south, and the main south facade has five bays. At the northwest corner there is a 3-story section with a clear glass curtain wall. The 6-story lower section of the tower wraps around it, extending out to 43rd Street at the east end, where it is clad in dark-brown brick and has a loading dock at the ground floor, topped by a row of metal vents. The upper floors on this section have bands of 4-over-3 windows.
The curtain wall at the rest of the facades consist of two windows per bay, with projecting mullions between the panes and spandrels. At the north end there is a setback at the 20th floor, with a green roof. The rest of the facades rise vertically to the roof line. At the east elevation, the core is expresses by a plain concrete slab in the center third of the facade, extending up to the roof line. The top floor houses mechanical equipment, and has black metal vents, with half the vertical piers ending just above the bottom of this level, and the rest extending to the roof line. The lower two floors are occupied by a Bank of America branch, and a Staples office supply store (three floors at the northwest corner).
