Kothur is a very old village established in 1933 by late Dittakavi Jagannath Rao. It is located 6 Kms from Mahabubabad on Yellandu Road. It has a lift irrigation scheme on Munneru River which irrigates about 150 acres. It has produced many graduates,notable among which is late Smt Durga Bhaktavatsal, who was a well known political figure. Her mother Smt Suguna Devi was a known figure among social circles for about 65 years who recently passed away at the age of 101. Her brother Subrahmanyam served as sarpanch of this village unanimously from 1981-1996. The village also boasts of many people who took teaching as their profession.The main crops under the lift irrigation scheme are Paddy,Groundnut,Chillies and cotton. Because of the proximity of Mahabubabad many youngsters make their livelyhood by establishing radio shops,cycle shops etc. |
