Sunrise Hotel (Vancouver)

Canada / British Columbia / Vancouver / East Hastings, 101

This building was once called the Broadway Hotel, now known as the Sunrise Hotel. Several years ago it housed a notorious skid row bar on the ground floor. It was then purchased by the government, renovated and now run by the Portland Hotel Society, I believe. The bar is gone, replaced with a coffee shop. Coop radio also leases space on the ground floor. Look for the beautiful fake plastic plants on each window sill.

  • it IS part of the portland hotel society
  • A lovely three story brick building was built at 101-103 East Hastings and opened as the Irving Hotel in 1907. By 1923 the hotel, under a new owner, changed the name to the Broadway Hotel which it was known until the name changed to the Sunrise Hotel. This area, corner of Columbia and East Hastings, had been known as a "drug corner" since after WWII.
