A Planned Community in the 1970s as a part of Ontario's growth plan. The eventual city size was to be over 100,000 residents but industry did not move to the townsite during a large recession.
In February of 1990, this was the closest community to the infamous "Hagersville Tire Fire", which burned for 17 days at the Straza tire dump on the Norfolk-Haldimand boundary.
