Tyler Haynes Commons spans Westhampton Lake, offering a breathtaking view of the historic gazebo through the building's floor-to-ceiling windows. The Commons is the center of student life at the University, and because of its central and convenient location, every student passes through this building at least once a day, making it a hub of activity. The Office of Student Activities and Office of Student Development are housed in this building, as well as several meeting rooms and study areas. It also is home to University of Richmond's Career Services. Students gather frequently for a meal or a quick break at Tyler's Grill or The Cellar (the campus pub), both located on the ground floor of the Commons. Completed in 1977, the Commons is named for W. Tyler Haynes, a 1922 graduate of Richmond College and a former trustee of the University.
