Kokaral or Kugaral (Green Island) was (until 1973) an island in the north of the Aral Sea. The area is 273 km² (1960). Height up to 163 m (Mount Daut). It is composed of sandy-argillaceous sediments and is covered with semi-desert vegetation. On the north coast are fishing villages Kokaral, Avan and Akbasty. In the north it was washed by Shevchenko Bay, in the west by the Ausa-Kokaral strait, in the east by the Berg strait.
From 1973 to 1987 it was a peninsula, from 1987 it became an isthmus between the Small and Big Aral.
